DALLAS, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team defeated Misericordia University 3-1 on Thursday evening in a non-conference match-up.
 
Jess Charlier led the Knights with 16 kills and a .667 hitting percentage. Ariana Pena tallied 12 and a .429 hitting percentage while Melanie Malseed added 11kills. Rachel Cray handed out 43 assists and four service aces. Alex Koppany notched 17 digs and Malseed added 11.
 
In the first set, the Knights pulled away while Cray was at the line serving. The senior tallied two service aces and a kill as Neumann took an 18-10 advantage on its way to the 25-16 first set win.
 
Cray opened the second set with two straight service aces. Misericordia tallied six straight points to get within 11-9. With Carlee Herrin serving, Neumann answered and scored seven consecutive points for an 18-9 advantage. A Cougar service error gave the Knights the 25-19 second set win.
 
In the third set, this time Misericordia, who was down 12-7 at the time, netted 11 straight points to an 18-12 lead. The Cougars forced a set four with a 25-19 third set win.
 
Serves by Herrin in the fourth set helped put some distance between the Knights and the Cougars, going from a 10-7 lead to a 17-7 edge. Kills by Pena and Malseed sealed the 25-14 fourth set win and 3-1 match win.
 
Neumann (15-10) will wrap up conference action on Tuesday when it hosts Cabrini. Action is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM.
