GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team was doubled-up late by Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon in an Atlantic East Conference contest.
The Griffins got on the board first, scoring a minute before the first quarter came to an end. The teams went into halftime with GMU leading 1-0.
The Knights tied the game at one as the third quarter was ending as
Tiffany Flowers scored off an assist from
Bri Lagroteria. The Griffins answered quickly and took back the lead in the first minute of the fourth quarter. Flowers netted her second goal of the game in the 49
th minute to once again tie the game.
As time was starting to wind down, Gwynedd Mercy was able to break the tie again with just under four minutes remaining in regulation. The Griffins added an insurance goal in the 58
th minute to seal the win.
Lizzie Yu made 14 saves in net for the Knights, who were outshot 24-4 in the game. Flowers also added a defensive save.
Neumann (5-11, 1-3 Atlantic East) will travel to Wesley on Wednesday evening to wrap up the regular season. Action is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM.
