ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team battled with No. 1 Swarthmore College on Saturday evening, but fell 86-76 in the end.
 
Haneef Vaughn led the Knights with 21 points. Nasir Cassel added 12 points.
 
Teams traded points over the first part of the game and were knotted at nine after five minutes. A three-pointer by Cassel put the Knights up by one, 12-11, with 13:14 left in the first half. The Garnet then started to make its move and built a 14-point lead, 32-18, with seven minutes left in the half. The teams traded three-pointers just before the half and Swarthmore took a 42-30 lead into the locker room.
 
Swarthmore led by as many as 26 in the second half. With 3:46 left in regulation, the Garnet held a 79-55 lead. The Knights went on a 14-0 run to get to within 10, 79-69. Swarthmore went one-for-one from the line to break the streak with 32 seconds on the clock. Cassel hit a three-pointer for an 80-72 score. The Garnet hit key free throws in the final 30 seconds as the Knights tried to comeback, but in the end the clock ran out and Swarthmore held on for the 86-76 win.
 
Neumann (2-1) will remain at home and will host Johns Hopkins on Wednesday evening. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
