SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team defeated Baruch College 3-0 on Saturday evening in a quarterfinal of the ECAC Tournament. Set scores were 25-17, 27-25 and 25-19.
Ariana Pena led the Knights with 14 kills.
Bre Hickey tallied 12 kills.
Rachel Cray hit her 3,000
th career assist as she handed out 41 in the match.
Melanie Malseed notched 17 digs while
Hayley Glah added 13.
The Knights steadily worked its lead in the first set for the 25-17 win. The teams went back and forth during the second set. With Neumann holding a 23-21 lead, the Baruch rattled off three points for a 24-23 lead. The Knights then scored two points to take a 25-24 advantage. The Bearcats tied the match at 25 before the Knights were able to score two straight points for a 27-25 second set win.
In the third set, the Knights took a 5-3 score and rattled off eight straight points for an 11-3 advantage. A kill by Pena sealed the win and advance to the semifinals.
Neumann (19-12) will face McDaniel tomorrow at 2:00 PM in the second semifinal match. The winners will then meet at 5:00 PM for the ECAC Championship.
