Women's Hockey Shuts Out Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team bounced back from a tough loss last weekend with a resounding effort on Friday evening, earning a 6-0 shutout victory over host Chatham University in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.

Katelyn Brown continued to carry the Knights offensively in the win, tallying four points on two goals and two assists. Helen Cooney was outstanding in net for Neumann, making 30 saves to pick up her second shutout of the young season.

A relatively quiet opening 20 minutes of play quickly changed as Claudia Trionfo broke through with the game's first goal midway through the period to give the Knights an early lead that they would never relinquish.

The second stanza was all about Brown as the Knights sought to build up their lead. The junior forward scored her seventh and eighth goals of the season late in the period to help the visitors to jump out to a 3-0 advantage after two periods of play.

Neumann kept on rolling into the third period as well, despite being outshot by a count of 13-11 in the final frame. Cooney was at her best late, as she preserved the shutout win by stopping every puck she saw. The visitors received three more insurance tallies to clinch the comfortable 6-0 win via goals from Sid Squires, Emma Paton and Syd Ladwig.

Neumann (4-2-0, 3-1 UCHC) will head to another road UCHC contest tomorrow, November 23rd when the team heads to Lebanon Valley College. Puck-drop is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
