ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's ice hockey team could not continue its winning streak on Saturday afternoon, falling in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action by a score of 6-1.
Â
Barry Kneedler tallied the lone goal of the game for the Knights, while
Mike Cosentino made 37 saves in goal in the loss.
Â
Stevenson took advantage of six first period Neumann penalties to dominate the opening 20 minutes. The Mustangs outshot the Knights by a count of 19-8 and used the man-advantage to record three power play goals in the period. The hosts had a chance to get back into the contest late in the frame with a power play of their own, but could not light the lamp as the game headed to intermission at 3-0 in favor of the visitors.
Â
The Mustangs continued to control play into the second stanza. Stevenson added two more insurance markers to their scoreline midway through the period to grab a commanding 5-0 lead. The visitors would again outshoot the Knights in the frame, doubling them up by a count of 12-6.
Â
Neumann tried to fight back in the third with their best play of the game, but it would not be enough on the afternoon. Stevenson added it's fourth power play goal of the game at the 14:32 mark and cruised the rest of the way for the win. Kneedler recorded a consolation goal at 16:07, but that was as close as the Knights would get as the game finished 6-1 in favor of the visitors.
Â
Neumann (2-4-0, 2-4-0 UCHC) will look to get back in the win column next weekend when it hosts a pair of non-conference games. The Knights will take on Lawrence University on Friday, November 29th at 7:00 PM and St. Norbert College on Saturday, November 30th at 4:00 PM.
