ASTON, Pa. - On a rainy and cold Thursday afternoon, the Neumann University women's lacrosse team found its way back into the win column, taking down visiting SUNY Old Westbury by a score of 17-6 in non-conference action.
Kaitlyn Conrad led the way with five goals and two assists, while
Reilly Fiedler added a hat trick herself.
Brylin Adams,
Keri Mallon and
Courtney Petrucelli all tallied twice and
Catriona Corrigan stopped 8 shots in goal yo pick up the win.
After slow starts in their last two road outings, the Knights made sure to open fast on Thursday afternoon on their home turf. Neumann opened the game with seven straight goals in the first 20 minutes of play and held the Panthers off the board to take a big 7-0 lead early in the contest. Conrad, Fiedler and Petrucelli all scored twice in the run to start the game, while Allie Bee also scored. The visitors found the back of the net twice in the final 10 minutes of the frame to break the shutout, but the Knights scored three more times via Adams, Fiedler and Conrad to take a commanding 10-2 lead into halftime.
The second half would be closer between the two teams, but Neumann's lead would never be in doubt. SUNY Old Westbury recorded two of the first three goals of the half, but the 11-4 scoreline was as close as they would get. The Knights rattled off five unanswered goals to put the game well out of reach. Mallon led the charge in the stretch with a pair of goals, while Adams, Conrad and
Reilly Fiedler also scored to give the hosts a 16-4 lead. The Panthers got a pair of late consolation goals, but Neumann put an exclamation mark on the win when
Abby Kelton scored with five seconds left to play to seal the 17-6 victory.
Neumann (5-3) will continue its non-conference schedule on Saturday, March 23rd when it plays host to Penn State Abington. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
