ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team won its second straight game of the week on Saturday afternoon, picking up a 20-6 victory over visiting Penn State Abington in non-conference action.
Kaitlyn Conrad (6 g),
Reilly Fiedler (3 g, 2 a) and
Brylin Adams (2 g, 3 a) paced the Neumann attack on the day, while
Brittany Cassidy (2 g, 1 a) caused six turnovers and picked up a team leading seven ground balls.
Lydia Beckman grabbed 10 draw controls and
Catriona Corrigan and
Sara Ropski combined for four saves in goal.
The Knights controlled play early on, scoring three times in the first three minutes through two Conrad goals and an Adams tally to take a 3-0 lead. Penn State Abington scored two of the next three goals in the contest to cut the lead to 4-2, but that would be as close as the Nittany Lions would get the rest of the way. Neumann took a stranglehold of the matchup midway through the period, scoring nine of the next ten goals of the half to create a ten goal cushion at 13-3 with 13:02 left in the frame. Conrad scored three times in the 9-1 run for the Knights, while Fiedler added two goals and an assist.
The Nittany Lions got two goals back late in the frame, but Neumann's offense continued to be too much for the visitors. The Knights found the back of the net four more times in the frame through goals from Adams, Conrad, Fiedler and
Carlee Herrin to take a commanding 17-5 lead into halftime.
With a comfortable second half advantage, Neumann slowed its pace and killed off the remainder of the game. Penn State Abington scored the first goal of the half, but the Knights then held the visitors without a shot for the rest of the game. The hosts then got goals from Fiedler,
Emma Beynon and
Reilly Pollock to close out the 20-6 win.
Neumann (6-3) will return to the field next Wednesday, March 27th for a non-conference matchup with Rowan University. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
