ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to Immaculata University 9-6 in Atlantic East Conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The Knights won the first meeting last week, splitting the season series with the Mighty Macs.
Danny Padilla had three hits in the game and knocked in three runs.
Curt Yenchik had two hits and scored a pair of runs.
Will Hart started the game and went 4.2 innings. He allowed seven runs on nine hits and struck out four.
Jared Morris went 3.1 innings in relief. He allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits.
The Mighty Macs struck for a run in the first and two in the second for an early 3-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, Padilla led off with a homerun. Yenchik then stepped to the plate and followed suit with a homerun as well. With one out,
Zach Ray wanted in on the action and he hit a homerun that hit the scoreboard. The three solo shots tied the game at three.
In the bottom of the fifth, Immaculata hit a grand slam to take back the advantage. Neumann got one run back in the top of the sixth as it capitalized on an error. The Mighty Macs answered with two runs, one earned, in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-4 game.
As the game headed to the ninth inning,
Jake Urena hit a pinch hit single and moved to second on an error. With two outs,
John Lindeborn singled for runners at first and third. Padilla then knocked a double to score Urena and Lindeborn. The Knights put the tying run on base as they loaded the bases, but could not get the run across the plate and the comeback fell short.
Neumann (11-14, 2-4 Atlantic East) heads to Marywood University on Saturday for a conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.
