SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team split an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader at Marywood University on Saturday afternoon. The Pacers won the first game 7-6 in eight innings. The Knights won the second game 10-6.
In game one, Marywood took the walk-off win in eight innings, 7-6. The Pacers got on the board with single runs in the first and third innings.
The Knights got on the board with a run in the fourth inning.
John Schoelkopf walked and scored on an RBI ground out by
Zach Ray. Marywood answered with two runs in the home half of the fourth inning for a 4-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, Neumann scored two runs as the first five batters reached base via a walk. The Knights tied the game at four on a sacrifice fly by
Curt Yenchik.
Neumann took the lead in the sixth.
Jake Urena doubled to lead off the inning.
Anthony Basciano pinch ran and scored on a single by
Colin Pollard. The Knights added a run in the seventh. Schoelkopf led off with a walk and came around to score on a single by
Danny Padilla.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Pacers hit a two-run double to tie the game at six and send the game to extra innings. Marywood then took advantage of a passed ball and scored an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth for the win.
Nick Glebocki started the game on the mound and went 6.0 innings in the no decision. He allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out seven.
John Lindeborn pitched the seventh inning and Schoelkopf took the loss, pitching the eighth inning.
In game two, each team plated a run in the first inning. Pollard scored on an RBI ground out by Padilla to put the Knights on the board.
After the Pacers scored in the bottom of the first, the Knights put five runs on the board in the second inning. The first three batters walked and the first run was scored on a wild pitch.
Tre'Zhan Selby then singled for another run. With two outs, Schoelkopf hit an RBI triple, followed by RBI singles by Lindeborn, Padilla and Yenchik.
The Knights added a run in the top of the third on a bases loaded walk. The Pacers answered with two runs for a 7-3 game after three inning.
In the top of the fifth, Yenchik hit a two-run homerun to extend Neumann's lead to 9-3. Marywood also scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Each team then plated a run in the sixth inning for a 10-6 score.
Josh Cruz went the distance on the mound for the win. In 7.0 innings he allowed six run on nine hits while striking out seven.
Neumann (12-15, 3-5 Atlantic East) returns home to host Rowan on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
