Knights Edged by Profs in Battle

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team was edged by No. 6 Rowan University 7-6 in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Colin Pollard went 3-for-5 with four RBI in the game. Phil Sanborn started the game on the mound and went 6.1 innings. He allowed three runs on eight hits. Will Hart went the final 2.2 innings and allowed four runs on four hits.
 
The Knights got on the board first as Alex Layton reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by John Schoelkopf in the third inning. Neumann scored another run in the fifth inning as Marty Cortellessa scored on a sacrifice fly by John Lindeborn.
 
The Profs cut the lead in half with a run in the sixth inning. Rowan then took the lead with four runs, including a three-run homerun, in the top of the seventh. The Profs plated two more runs in the eighth for a 7-2 lead.
 
In the home half of the eighth, Schoelkopf, Lindeborn and Danny Padilla led off the inning with three straight singles. With one out, Pollard hit a two-run single for a 7-4 score.
 
In the bottom of the ninth and two outs, the Knights loaded the bases with two walks and a single. Pollard again came to the plate and hit a two-run single to pull within one, 7-6. With runners at first and second, the Knights hit the ball hard, but the Profs were able knock it down and to force the runner out at second to end the game. 
 
Neumann (12-16) is right back on the field tomorrow as it will host No. 13 Salisbury University. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
