ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to No. 13 Salisbury University 11-7 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Seagulls had their first three batters reach base, leading to six runs, four earned runs, in the top of the first.
In the bottom of the second,
Curt Yenchik led off with a walk.
Andrew La Rosa,
Jake Urena and
Zach Ray all followed with singles to put the Knights on the board.
Andrew Fowler then hit an RBI ground out followed by a sacrifice fly by
John Schoelkopf.
Colin Pollard knocked in the fourth run of the inning with a single.
In the home half of the third,
John Lindeborn led off with a double, followed by a single by
Danny Padilla. Lindeborn scored on a wild pitch. With two outs, Urena knocked in Padilla to tie the game at six.
Salisbury answered right back in the top of the fourth inning and plated four runs to take back the lead, 10-6.
The Knights added an unearned run in the eighth. The Seagulls added an insurance run in the top of the ninth. Neumann put two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth, but could not rally back.
Schoelkopf started the game on the mound and went 3.1 innings. He allowed 10 runs, eight earned, on seven hits while striking out three.
David Alvarez went the next 1.2 innings and allowed a hit.
Brennan Hatala finished the final 4.0 innings. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out a pair.
Neumann (12-17) is back into conference action this weekend when it hosts Wesley for a doubleheader. Action is slated to get underway at 12:00 PM on Saturday.
