ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team split an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader with Wesley College on Monday afternoon. The Wolverines took game one 13-6 while the Knights took the night cap 16-5.
The Wolverines led off the game with two innings in the top of the first inning. The Knights came to the plate and hit three consecutive doubles by
Colin Pollard,
John Schoelkopf and
John Lindeborn to get on the board. Neumann plated four runs in the inning to take the lead.
Wesley answered with two runs in the top of the second to knot the score at four. The Wolverines then took a 6-4 lead with two runs in the fifth. In the home half of the fourth, Schoelkopf reached on a walk and scored on a homerun by
Curt Yenchik for a 6-6 game.
The Wolverines then plated five runs in the sixth and two unearned runs in the seventh to take game one 13-6.
Josh Cruz started the game and went the first 6.0 innings.
Brennan Hatala pitched the seventh inning.
The roles reversed in game two as the Knights took home the 16-5 win. Neumann put an unearned run on the board in the first inning before sending 6 batter to the plate in the second inning, exploding for 13 runs. Pollard hit a two-run single during an inning of well-placed one-run hits.
The Wolverines scored two runs in the third and the sixth and one more in the seventh for their five runs.
Danny Padilla hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh.
Jake Urena led off the ninth with a single and scored the final run in the game for the 16-5 final.
Nick Glebocki started the game and went 6.0 innings for the win. He allowed four runs, just one earned, on seventh hits.
Phil Sanborn picked up a three-inning save. He allowed one run on three hits. Pollard and Yenchik each knocked in three runs in the game. Urena was 4-for-4 at the plate and scored three runs.
Neumann (13-18, 4-6 Atlantic East) will host Ramapo to wrap up non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
