ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team got back into the win column on Wednesday afternoon over Wesley College with a resounding 22-12 victory in Atlantic East Conference action.
It was a historic day for senior
Brittany Cassidy, who scored seven goals to reach the 100th goal of her career.
Reilly Fiedler added six goals of her own, while
Brylin Adams (4 g) and
Courtney Petrucelli (3 g, 1 a) each recorded four point days.
Catriona Corrigan and
Sara Ropski combined for ten saves in goal in the win.
Needing a win to stay on pace for home field advantage in the conference playoffs, the Knights raced out to an early 3-0 lead via goals from Adams, Fiedler and Petrucelli in the game's first four minutes. Wesley countered with a pair of goals of their own to make it 3-2, but Neumann would go on a 9-1 run over the next ten minutes of play to take a stranglehold of the game with a lead of 12-3 at the 12:14 mark. Cassidy was brilliant during the stretch for the Knights, dominating the Wolverines with six of her seven goals during the ten minute period. Included in those six tallies was the senior's 100th goal of her career at Neumann. Wesley got three goals back late in the half, but the hosts found the back of the net four more times to take a 16-5 lead into halftime.
With the game in hand in the second half, the Knights coasted the rest of the way. Neumann received a pair of second half goals from Petrucelli and single tallies from Adams, Fiedler,
Lydia Beckman and
Carlee Herrin. The Wolverines scored seven times in the frame, but it wasn't nearly enough as the Knights took home the 22-12 victory.
Neumann (10-6, 3-2 Atlantic East) will have a few days off with the Easter break before closing out its regular season schedule at Marywood University next Wednesday, April 24th. Game-time in Scranton is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
