ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball went 9-1 during the first season of Atlantic East Conference action and will be the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
The first weekend of playoffs will feature two pods at the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds. The Knights will host No. 4 seeded Marywood University and No. 6 seeded Gwynedd Mercy University. Immaculata clinched the No. 2 seed and will host No. 3 seeded Cabrini University and No. 5 seeded Wesley College in the other pod.
The Knights are being led by a number players at the plate.
Jackie Selby is batting .410 with 34 hits, with six doubles and two triples, while scoring 25 runs.
Grace Sperrazza is batting .406 a team-high 41 hits, including 12 doubles and four homeruns. The junior also leads the team with 33 RBI and 34 runs scored.
In the circle,
Jen Sieminski is 11-6 overall. She has struck out 75 in 93.2 innings.
Nicole Wisser is 9-3 over 72.2 innings and
Taylor Naman is 4-1 over 45.2 innings.
During the regular season, Neumann swept both Marywood and Gwynedd Mercy and all coming on the road. Against the Griffins, back on April 6, the Knights won the games 11-0 and 13-1, both in five innings. Sperrazza tallied four hits, including a triple and a homerun, and five RBI in the two games.
Kate Korte' also had four hits in the doubleheader. Sieminski and Wisser picked up the complete game wins in the circle.
At Marywood, Neumann won by scores of 3-1 and 12-0.
Jackie Schneider had a homerun in the first game and Sperrazza tallied her 100
th career hit.
Bri Lagroteria notched four hits, four RBI and scored four runs.
Kierstin Fallers had four hits, four RBI and score three runs. Sieminski and Wisser again picked up the wins in the circle.
Action is slated to get underway at 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 26 as Neumann will host Gwynedd Mercy. GMU and Marywood will then play at 2:00 PM. The Pacers and the Knights will wrap up action on the first day at 4:00 PM. Sunday's schedule will depend on the outcomes of the games on Saturday.
