Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Immaculata for First Atlantic East Win

IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team opened up the Atlantic East Conference portion of its schedule with a hard-fought 15-12 win over Immaculata University on Wednesday afternoon.

As has been the case for much of the season, seniors Brittany Cassidy (3 g, 3 a) and Kaitlyn Conrad (6 g, 1 a) were the spark plugs for Neumann in the win. Brylin Adams, Reilly Fiedler and Courtney Petrucelli also each scored twice for Neumann, while Catriona Corrigan made 13 saves to pick up the win in goal.

Excited to begin conference play, the Knights raced out to a big early lead. Before ten minutes had come off the clock, Neumann carried a 6-0 lead via a goal and two assists from Cassidy, two goals from Conrad and a goal each from Adams, Fiedler and Petrucelli. The Mighty Macs sandwiched a pair of goals around another Cassidy marker at the 16:45 mark of the frame, and that would be all the scoring in the opening 30 minutes of play, as Neumann took a comfortable 7-2 lead into halftime.

The hosts would not go quietly in the second stanza though, fighting back to make a game of it early in the final frame. After the two teams traded goals three goals apiece to open the half and make it 10-5 in favor of Neumann, Immaculata recorded four of the next six goals of the period to get right back into the contest with the score at 12-9 with 12:22 left to play. That was as close as the game would get the rest of the way though, as the Knights used four second half tallies from Conrad to hold off the Mighty Macs and clinch the team's first-ever Atlantic East victory.

Neumann (8-4, 1-0 Atlantic East) will return home on Saturday, April 6th when the team plays host to conference rival Cabrini University. Game-time is slated to start at 1:30 PM.
