ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team fell for the first time in Atlantic East Conference play on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 22-9 result to visiting Cabrini University.
Kaitlin Conrad scored five times in the loss for the Knights, who received seven saves in net from
Catriona Corrigan.
Neumann jumped out to a great start with a free position goal from
Carlee Herrin 1:06 into the contest, but the lead would be short-lived. Cabrini responded with six unanswered goals in the next 12 minutes to take a 6-1 lead at the 16:44 mark. Conrad broke up the rally with a goal at 13:52 to make it 6-2, but another 5-0 Cavalier run made it 11-2 late in the half. The Knights answered back with four of the games next five goals to bring the deficit back to six at 12-6 with 3:34 left in the period, but two goals from the visitors sent the contest to halftime with Cabrini leading 14-6.
The Cavaliers wasted no time in the second half trying to seal the win, scoring the first four goals of the frame to take a comfortable 18-6 advantage with 24:49 left to play. Conrad was the lone bright spot for the Knights in the second half, scoring all three of Neumann's goals in the period. The senior's tallies were not enough though, as Cabrini added four more goals to their total to head home with the 22-9 conference victory.
Neumann (8-5, 1-1 Atlantic East) will look to get back into the win column next week when it heads to Gwynedd Mercy University on Tuesday, April 9th. Game time for the Atlantic East showdown is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
