Women's Lacrosse Travels to Marywood for Atlantic East Conference Semifinals

4/30/2019 3:59:00 PM

ASTON, Pa. – With a thrilling 15-14 victory over Immaculata University in the first round of the Atlantic East Conference playoffs, the Neumann University women's lacrosse team advances to take on top-seeded Marywood University tomorrow at 6:00 PM.

The fourth-seeded Knights completed the regular season with a record of 10-7, including a 3-3 mark in conference play. Marywood received a bye in the opening round after going undefeated in conference play on its way to an overall record of 11-4.

Neumann will head to Scranton looking to avoid a result similar to the team's last trip there just two weeks ago. The Knights fell to Marywood by a score of 18-5 in their regular season finale.

Despite that loss, Neumann has a lot to build on after its win over Immaculata this past weekend. The Knights were led on the day by Brittany Cassidy, who scored four goals and added two assists in the back and forth win. The senior midfielder tallied the game-winning goal with just 23 seconds remaining to seal the win. Courtney Petrucelli also scored four times, while Carlee Herrin (3 g) and Brylin Adams (2 g, 1 a) each had three points.

The Knights field an attack that has five 20-goal scorers this season. The top attacker of the group is Kaitlyn Conrad, who leads the team in goals (79), assists (14) and points (93). The senior has broken almost all of the program's scoring records, including most goals and points in a career as well as most goals and points in a single-season.
Cassidy has also been excellent this year all over the field, recording 44 goals and 14 assists for 58 points, while also causing a team high 39 turnovers and picking up 41ground balls. Reilly Fiedler (38 goals), Petrucelli (33 goals) and Adams (23 goals) have also been key contributors to the Neumann offense.

Defensively, the Knights have gotten big contributions from the trio of Lydia BeckmanNani Espada and Kim Hesser. Beckman leads the team with 86 draw controls and 48 ground balls, while Espada (26 CT, 30 GB) and Hesser (15 CT, 25 GB) have also been excellent on defense.

Catriona Corrigan has also had an outstanding first season in goal for the Knights with a record of 10-6 on the year and 201 saves, which leads the conference. The freshman netminder has appeared in 1024 minutes for Neumann this season and has a save percentage of 0.443.

Neumann is into the semifinals for the seventh consecutive season and will look to get to its first championship game since the 2016 season. The winner of the Neumann/Marywood game will take on either Marymount or Cabrini on Saturday, May 4th in the Atlantic East Conference championship.
