RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Cabrini University on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic East action. The Cavaliers won the first game 7-6 in walk-off fashion and then took the nightcap 4-2.
In the first game, the Cavaliers struck first with a run in the first inning. The Knights scored three runs in the top of the third for a 3-1 lead. The first three batters reached on singles.
John Lindeborn and
Curt Yenchik each hit RBI singles in the inning.
Zach Ray hit a sacrifice fly for the third run.
Cabrini then tied the game at three with two runs in the third and took the lead with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.
As the teams headed to the top of the seventh, the Knights were down 6-3.
John Schoelkopf led off with a single, followed by two walks to
Andrew La Rosa and Lindeborn.
Danny Padilla hit a two-run single. Yenchik then tied the game with a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the seventh, Cabrini clinched the walk-off with a RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.
Josh Cruz started the game and went 5.0 innings. He allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits while striking out six.
Jared Morris suffered his first loss of the season. In 1.2 innings he allowed one run on three hits.
In game two, Neumann scored its two runs in the top of the first. Schoelkopf led off with a double and La Rosa was hit by a pitch for two runners on base. Lindeborn and Padilla followed with RBI singles.
The Cavaliers scored their first run on a solo homerun in the sixth and then a three-run homerun in the seventh.
Nick Glebocki went 8.0 innings on the mound for the Knights. He allowed four runs on 10 hits and struck out three.
Neumann (10-13, 2-3 Atlantic East) will host Carin on Monday in a non-conference contest. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
