GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell late in a battle at Gwynedd Mercy University, 62-57, on Wednesday evening.
Waheem Lowman netted 15 points to lead the Knights.
Sanoussi Abdourhamane tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. He also added three blocks.
The game came down to the wire. The Griffins tied the game at 57 with 1:35 left in regulation and took the lead with a jumper as the clock ticked down to under a minute. The Knights had a few looks to tie the game, but the Griffins hit 3-of-4 free throws in the final 23 seconds for the win.
The first half was a battle, featuring five lead changes and a pair of tied scores. Gwynedd Mercy took a one-point lead into the break, 24-23.
The first five minutes of the second half were much like the first half. With the teams knotted at 29, the Knights went on an 13-4 run to jump out to a 42-33 lead with 13:07 on the clock. Neumann would continue to hold the lead until 1:35 left in regulation when Gwynedd Mercy tied the game at 57.
Neumann (7-11, 1-4 Atlantic East) will return home next Wednesday for a conference contest against Marywood. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 PM.
