ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team used a second half surge to defeat Marywood University 66-57 on Wednesday evening.
Waheem Lowman and
Dennis Robinson led the Knights with 14 points each. All seven Knights that hit the court netted at last three points and grabbed two rebounds.
Nasir Cassel netted 13 points.
Justin Smith grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Knights jumped out to an early 8-0 lead. The Pacers came back and tied the game at 10 midway through the first half. With five minutes left in the first, Marywood built a 22-14 advantage. Neumann would pull to with four, 28-24, before the break.
Seven minutes into the second, Marywood held a 39-30 lead when Neumann started to make its move and scored 10 straight points for a 40-39 lead. The Pacers answered with the next seven points. With 4:39 on the clock, Lowman pulled the teams even with a layup and put the Knights ahead 52-51 with a free throw.
After the teams traded free throws,
Matt Porreca hit a three-pointer for a 57-53 advantage with 3:15 left in regulation. After a minute of no scoring, Robinson connected on a layup for a six-point Neumann lead. The Knights went 7-for-8 from the line in the final minute to seal the win and get back win column.
Neumann (8-11, 2-4 Atlantic East) will start the second round of conference action as it heads to Cabrini on Saturday afternoon. Action is slated to begin at 3:00 PM.
