ASTON, Pa. – A strong second half led the Neumann University men's basketball team to a 65-49 win over Cabrini University in the Atlantic East Conference opener on Wednesday evening.
Jordyn Kendrick led four Knights in double-digits with 18 points as the freshman went 6-for-8 from beyond the arc.
Waheem Lowman tallied 17 points.
Dennis Robinson netted 13 while
Nasir Cassel added 10.
Justin Smith grabbed 14 rebounds and handed out six assists.
Sanoussi Abdourhamane had 11 boards and five blocks.
The Knights built a 9-2 lead after the first three minutes of the contest and would hold the lead until six minutes left before halftime. The Cavaliers took an 18-17 lead, but Lowman responded right back with a layup to take back the lead. Cabrini then went on a 9-2 run for a 27-21 advantage with under two minutes remaining before halftime. The Cavaliers hit a buzzer beater to take a 33-28 lead into the break.
Cabrini held the lead over the first part of the second half before Neumann started to make its move, using three-pointers by Kendrick. Down by five, 46-41, the Knights went on a 13-0 run for a 54-46 lead. A jumper by Robinson gave Neumann a double-digit lead, 59-49, with just over seven minutes left in regulation. The Cavaliers would not find the basket over the final seven minutes and were held to just 16 points in the second half. The Knights came away with the 65-49 win.
Neumann (7-7, 1-0 Atlantic East) will host Wesley College on Saturday. Tip-off will follow the women's game around 3:00 PM.
