ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team defeated Cairn University 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon, almost a week after the Highlanders defeated the Knights 3-2.
 
The Highlanders took the first two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-17. The Knights battled to take set three 26-24. Neumann then forced a fifth set with a 25-21 fourth set win. This is the third time the Knights have gone to a fifth set this season and the first time they took the match, winning set five 15-12.
 
Thomas McConnell led the Knights with 15 kills. Ryan Bollinger added nine kills. Jules Maiorano handed out 24 assists while adding 18 digs. Conner Kolek tallied 12 digs and McConnell notched 10.
 
In the fifth set, the teams went back and forth and were knotted at 12. Bollinger put Neumann up 13-12 with a kill. Kyle Slinkman then tallied a service ace. At match point, Bollinger notched another kill to give the Knights their first fifth set win, 15-12.
 
In set three, the Knights were up by a 24-21 score. The Highlanders tied the set at 24, but back-to-back kills by McConnell and Bollinger kept the match going as the Knights won the set 26-24.
 
The Knights had to keep working in the fourth set but kills by Kolek and Eric Van Horn sent the match into the fifth and deciding set.
 
Neumann (3-6) will get back into conference action on Friday as it heads to Immaculata. Action is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM.
