AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Neumann University baseball team opened its 2020 season with a 19-2 win over Northern Vermont University - Lyndon on Saturday afternoon. The win also marks the first win for head coach
Scott Grimes.
The Knights opened the game by plating eight runs before even taking the field. With two walks and a hit-by-pitch, Neumann loaded the bases. With the third walk of the inning,
Andrew La Rosa scored.
Joe Murray and
Tre'Zhan Selby each followed with two-run doubles.
Nick Glebocki had an RBI single. La Rosa then hit a two-run single up the middle for an 8-0 lead.
Neumann scored two more runs in the second and seven in the fourth en route to the 19-2 final.
Grant Wallace started the game and went 3.0 innings. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out five.
Billy Hunt went the next three innings for his first collegiate win. He allowed two hits, no runs and struck out two.
Pat Leighton pitched the final inning as the game was called after seven innings.
La Rosa finished the game with three RBI.
Zach Ray had three hits, knocked in two and scored two runs.
Neumann (1-0) will face Muhlenberg tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 9:30 AM.
