CHESTER, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team couldn't hold onto an early lead and fell at Widener University 19-9 on Tuesday afternoon.
Grant Wallace started the game and went 3.1 innings in the no decision. He allowed six runs, five earned, on six hits.
Matt Grosse took the loss, going 1.2 innings.
Jose Romero and
Eric Jester each took an inning on the mound.
The Knights scored two runs in the top of the fist inning.
Colin Pollard opened with a single. Romero hit a triple to knock in Pollard and came around to score on an error.
In the top of the second, Pollard tripled to knocked in
Andrew Fowler for a 3-1 lead.
Zach Ray hit a lead-off homerun in the fourth inning.
Joe Murray hit a double and scored on a double steal. Neumann added four runs in the fourth inning for a 9-1 lead.
In the home half of the fourth, the Pride plated nine runs to take a 10-9 lead. Widener added three runs in the sixth and six in the seventh for the 19-9 final.
Neumann (4-6) heads to Rutgers-Newark tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM
