ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team shutout Bryn Athyn College 6-0 on Monday afternoon.
Bri Zuspann and
Kylie Fitchett each netted two goals.
Rachel Koerner had a goal and an assist.
Lexi Stouffer handed out three assists.
Megan Frame started the game in net and did not face a shot in the first half.
Emma Schneider played the second half and saved the one shot she saw.
The Knights didn't waste any time, scoring in the first two minutes of the game. Stouffer had a shot from the top of the circle that Zuspann deflected into the back of the cage. Just before halftime,
Sydney Volpe tipped in another shot by Stouffer for a 2-0 lead into the break.
Five minutes into the second half, Fitchett intercepted the ball as the Lions tried to exit out of the defensive zone. The junior took one step into the circle and hit a rocket into the back of the net for a 3-0 game.
The Knights didn't let up and scored three goals in the final quarter. Koerner tipped in a shot from Stouffer in the 49
th minute. Zuspann scored her second goal of the game a minute later when she knocked in a shot from Koerner. Fitchett rounded out the scoring when she knocked in a rebound in the 53
rd minute.
The Knights had 11 penalty corners in the game, which were all taken by
Lizzie Frame. Some of the goals were off well placed inbounds on the penalty corners. Neumann outshot Bryn Athyn 38-1 overall and 27-1 on net.
Neumann (3-13) will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday when it hosts Marywood. Action is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM.
