ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's soccer team has earned the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic East Conference playoffs and will play host to No. 6 Marywood University on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights enter the postseason after recording a 3-2–1 mark in conference play to earn home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Neumann will know it's opponent well, having just played Marywood on Wednesday afternoon. The Knights will be hoping for a similar result in Saturday's contest, as the team was victorious over the Pacers by a score of 3-0 earlier in the week thanks to goals from
Sam Clavijo,
Corey Madigan and
Jon Yinger.
Neumann has been led all season offensively by senior
Marlon Trejo, who leads the team with eight goals and four assists. Trejo's 20 points this season rank him third in the conference. Clavijo and Yinger have also been excellent in their rookie seasons. Clavijo tops the Atlantic East with six goals in conference play, while Yinger ranks fifth in the conference in points in conference play with seven (3 g, 2a). The Knights have also received outstanding contributions from midfielders Alex Lopez,
Eddie Proud,
Connor Ryan and
Chris Siemien.
Defensively, the team has been guided by outstanding goalkeeping from
Seth Walker. The junior leads the conference with five shutouts overall, including three in conference play. He also ranks second in goals against average in conference play (1.12 gaa).
Alex Duopu,
Edwin Guerrero and
Gabe Romero have also been stalwarts on the Neumann back-line, each starting every conference contest.
Elsewhere around the conference, No. 2 Immaculata hosts No. 7 Gwynedd Mercy, while No. 4 Marymount faces off against No. 5 Centenary. Top seeded Cabrini received a quarterfinal bye and will take on the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals.
