ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's ice hockey team couldn't find its way into the win column on Saturday afternoon, dropping its second consecutive contest to open the season by a score of 6-0 to visiting SUNY Brockport in non-conference action.
Kyle Pantalone and
Zach Richards split time in goal, combining for 20 saves in the loss.
Barry Kneedler paced the team with four shots.
Hungry to earn its first win of the season, Neumann started strong in Saturday's contest. The Knights put 10 shots on target in the first frame, but none would find the back of net. Brockport also had ten shots, but capitalized on one of those efforts, taking a 1-0 lead midway through the frame and carrying it into the first intermission.
The game would take a sharp turn for the worse for Neumann in the second stanza. Despite two power plays in the period, the Knights continued to be held off the scoreboard. The Golden Eagles then blew the game wide open with three markers in the frame to take a commanding 4-0 lead after two periods of play.
The Knights tried to fight back in the third, but could not solve the Brockport net-minder. The visitors added on a pair of goals in the period and skated away with the 6-0 non-conference win.
Neumann (0-2) will look to rebound next weekend when it hosts a pair of United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contests versus King's and Wilkes. Puck-drop on Friday, November 5th versus King's is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
