ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team dropped its second game in as many days to visiting SUNY Canton in non-conference action by a score of 5-2.
Mikaylee Henhawk and
Kyleigh Prance scored for the Knights in the loss, while
Michelle Winand-Bacon stopped 41 shots in goal.
Looking to avenge Tuesday's loss to the Kangaroos, the Knights played a solid first period. Neumann recorded ten shots on goal, but could not put a puck over the goal-line. Canton registered 14 shots of their own in the first frame, tallying the period's lone goal at the 4:59 mark to take a 1-0 lead into intermission.
The second stanza would be one to forget for the Knights. The hosts could not get out of their own end as the Kangaroos notched 19 shots in the period on their way to two more markers. Neumann could not generate a shot in the frame as the game moved to the third with the score at 3-0.
Canton thought it put the game to bed early in the third with a goal just 4:06 into the period to make it 4-0, but the Knights rallied to make it a game thanks to numerous penalties from the visitors. Neumann scored on a 5-on-3 advantage via a Henhawk rifle from the point to make it 4-1, then the hosts added a second goal on the power-play with 4:35 left in the game when Prance banged home a loose puck just outside the crease to bring the score to 4-2. The Knights pressed to get even closer on the scoreboard, but some solid goaltending from the Kangaroo goaltender kept the two-goal deficit intact until late in the contest. Canton then sealed the victory with an empty-netter as time expired to clinch the 5-2 win.
Neumann (1-8-1) will have the weekend off before returning to action next Thursday, December 2nd on the road at Nazareth College. Puck-drop for the UCHC game is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
