GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team opened the 2021-22 season at the Purple Stride Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Tip-Off Classic at Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon. The Knights defeated Shenandoah University 78-58.
Jalen Vaughns led the Knights with a double-double, 25 points and 13 rebounds, and added three blocked shots.
Tyler Norwood netted 24 points and
KJ Speller added 11.
Ryan Starr handed out seven assists.
Neumann opened with an 11-0 run over the first five minutes of the game. The Hornets pulled to within four, 15-11, midway through the first half. Neumann built its lead back up, leading by 15, 40-25, at the half.
The Knights used the lead built in the first half and kept Shenandoah at a double-digit deficit throughout the final 20 minutes.
Neumann (1-0) will face Delaware Valley on Sunday in day two of the Tio-Off Classic. Tip-off is slated for 12:00 PM.
