GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team held on to defeat Delaware Valley University 83-77 on Sunday afternoon in day two of the Purple Stride Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Tip-Off Classic at Gwynedd Mercy University.
Tyler Norwood led four players in double-digits, netting 31 points.
Tony James scored 15, going 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
Jalen Vaughns tallied 12 and
KJ Speller added 10.
The game went back and forth as there were 12 lead changes and nine tied scores throughout the 40 minutes. Tied at 10, the Knights netted seven straight points for a 17-10 lead. The Aggies tied the game at 26 on a free throw with just under three minutes left in the half. A jumper by
Kyson Rawls put Neumann up 36-33 at the half.
The majority of the second half remained close with tied scores and lead changes. Leading by one, 70-69, with under five left in regulation, Neumann scored the next four points for a 74-69 advantage. A three-pointer by Norwood put the Knights up by seven, 79-72, with two minutes left on the clock. The teams traded baskets in the final minutes. Two free throws each by Norwood and James down the stretch sealed the win as Neumann came away with the 83-77 victory.
Neumann (2-0) will head to Drexel University on Tuesday for an exhibition contest. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 PM.
