Four Knights hit Double-Digits for Win over Blazers

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team picked up an 84-74 win over Hood College in the consolation game of the Al Senavitis Memorial Holiday Tournament at DeSales on Thursday evening.
 
Jalen Vaughns led the Knights with 35 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks. The sophomore was named to the All-Tournament team. Ryan Starr hit four three-pointers en route to 17 points. He also handed out seven assists. Tony James tallied a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. TJ Lewis rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 points.
 
Over the first 12 minutes of the game, there were nine lead changes and three knotted scores. With 7:47 on the clock, a three-pointer by Starr put Neumann in the lead, 24-23. Starr followed with another three-pointer for a 27-23 edge. Vaughns then hit a layup for a six-point advantage. A dunk by Vaughns in the final minute of the first half gave the Knights their largest lead and Neumann took the 41-32 lead into the break.
 
The Knights built a lead as large as 12, 52-41, five minutes into the second half. Midway through the half, the Blazers pulled to within four. Leading 64-60, Neumann netted the next seven points to extend its lead back to double-digits. Hood would not go quietly and got back to with four, 75-71, with two minutes left in regulation. The Blazers hit a three-pointer with 50 seconds remaining for a 79-74 game. A layup by Vaughns extended the lead back up to seven. Starr went 1-for-2 from the line and Lewis went 2-for-2 in the final 20 seconds to seal the win.
 
Neumann (7-5) is back home on Monday when it hosts Penn State Brandywine. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
