ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team saw its two game winning streak snapped Friday afternoon as the team dropped a 10-0 result to Elmira College in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) play.
Alexa Lamplugh did her best to keep the Knights in the contest, stopping 48 shots on the afternoon.
Jeannie Padden led the team in shots with three.
Looking for its third straight conference victory, Neumann had its hands full from the opening whistle against the undefeated Soaring Eagles. The Knights could muster just two shots in the first frame, allowing three goals in the opening 20 minutes of play to trail 3-0 after one. Without Lamplugh, the score-line may have been even worse for the hosts, as the goaltender made 15 saves in the period.
Again buoyed by some stellar net-minding in the second stanza, the Knights were able to hold Elmira to just one goal in the period. Neumann had a great chance to work its way back into the game with a late two-man advantage, but the hosts could not capitalize despite several good opportunities as the game moved to the third with the score at 4-0 in favor of the visitors.
The Knights tried to claw back in the final frame, but the Soaring Eagles were just too strong on the day. Elmira exploded for six third period goals, blowing the game wide open on its way to the comfortable 10-0 win.
Neumann (3-3-1) will look to exact revenge tomorrow when the two teams head back to Elmira for a rematch. Puck-drop in New York is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
