Women's Hockey Stumbles Versus Stevenson

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team stumbled in its return to the ice on Friday evening, falling by a score of 8-1 to United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) rival Stevenson University.

Georgi Rowland was the lone goal-scorer in the loss, while Alexa Lamplugh made 48 saves in goal.

Seeking a win in its first game back from a two-week layoff, the Knights got a dream start against the rival Mustangs. After Gabby Massa drove hard to the net midway through the first frame, Rowland picked up a loose back at the back door of the net and slammed home her fourth tally of the season to give Neumann a 1-0 lead at the 8:13 mark of the first. Unfortunately for the hosts, Stevenson would answer right back though, equalizing the contest at 1-1 just 1:30 later. The Knights looked to have gained momentum back with two late period power plays, but a Stevenson short handed goal in the final five minutes of frame gave the visitors a 2-1 leading heading to the second.

The Mustangs used a dominant second stanza to pull completely out of reach. Stevenson held the Knights to just one shot on goal in the period and found the back of the net five times as they gained a stranglehold on the game with the score at 7-1 moving into the third.

Neumann wouldn't quit on the contest, but the matchup was too far out of reach in the final 20 minutes of play. The Knights played much better team defense in the period, but still couldn't get any kind of attack going. The Mustangs tacked on an insurance marker late in the game and skated away with the comfortable 8-1 road win.

Neumann (3-4-1) gets back to the ice tomorrow when it faces Stevenson for the second time in two days. Puck-drop in Maryland is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
