Box Score REISTERSTOWN, Md. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team closed out the regular season portion of its season on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 7-4 to host Stevenson University in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.
Jeannie Padden carried the Neumann offense on the day with two goals and an assist.
Georgi Rowland scored for the second consecutive day in the loss, while
Kyleigh Prance also scored for Neumann.
Alexa Lamplugh got the start in goal and made 27 saves in a losing effort.
Attempting to beat Stevenson for the first time in four tries this season, Saturday's contest started off much like Friday night's game ended. The Mustangs mauled Neumann in the opening 20 minutes, scoring three times without reply in the first frame to jump out to an early 3-0 lead. The score could have been even worse were it not for the seven saves from Lamplugh in the period.
The Knights would use the first intermission to reinvigorate their spirit though, coming out to start the second with a renewed attitude and mentality. Neumann chipped away at the Stevenson lead one tally at a time, with Rowland breaking the ice at 3:31 of the period to make it 3-1. The freshman forward then took her turn at setting up a goal, assisting on a second Neumann marker along with
Gabby Massa, as Prance lit the lamp at the 13:34 mark of the period to make it 3-2. The visitors weren't done yet either, as Padden took matters into her own hands in the final minutes of the period. The senior forward scored twice in the final six minutes of the stanza to shock Stevenson and give the Knights a 4-3 lead heading to the third.
Similar to Neumann's second period awakening however, the Mustangs completely flipped the script in the final frame. The hosts leveled the matchup at 4-4 just 48 seconds into the period, then pulled away with three more unanswered goals to take a commanding 7-4 lead with ten minutes left to play. The Mustangs locked things down the rest of the way, keeping the Knights off the board to clinch the conference victory.
Neumann (3-5-1) will await results around the conference before learning where the team will head for next week's first round of the playoffs. Check back later this weekend for more details on the Knights' first round opponent and game time.
