Baseball Drops a Pair to Mighty Macs

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team dropped a pair of games at Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference action. The Mighty Macs won game one 5-2 and game two 8-4.
 
In the first game, the Mighty Macs got on the board in the first with a bases-clearing double for a 3-0 lead. Immaculata added two more runs in the fifth for a 5-0 advantage.
 
The Knights didn't go quietly in the top of the seventh. Anthony Basciano led off with a single and Alex Layton walked. Colin Pollard singled to score Basciano. Zach Ray then doubled to score Andrew Fowler, who pinch-ran for Layton. With two on and two out, Ryan Gonzalez was hit by a pitch to load the bases, however, Neumann could not get another run across and fell 5-2 in game one.
 
Andrew Curran went 5.0 innings and allowed five runs on four hits. Tyler Szilagyi pitched a scoreless sixth inning.
 
In game two, Immaculata put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first and four more in the second for an early 6-0 advantage.
 
The Knights got on the board in the fourth. Ray singled to lead off the inning. Cris Diaz followed with a single for runners on the corners. Gonzalez doubled to score Ray. Jose Romero followed with another single to score Diaz. The Knights got another run on a double play for a 6-3 score.
 
The Mighty Macs added two more runs in the sixth. In the seventh, Basciano singled and scored on a single by Jester for and 8-4 game.
 
Billy Hunt started the game on the mound and went 5.1 innings. He allowed eight runs on eight hits. Szilagyi went 1.2 scoreless innings. Brennan Hatala pitched the final innings.
 
Neumann (5-4, 2-4 Atlantic East) will head into the conference series with Marymount next weekend. The Knights head to the Saints on Friday for a single game. Neumann will host Marymount in a doubleheader next Saturday.
