ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell in two close contests to Marymount University on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference Action. The Saints won by scores of 7-6 and 11-8.
Will Hart started game one and went 6.0 innings in the no decision. He allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out four.
Dylan Parker saw the mound for the first time this season, walked three batters and took the loss.
Tyler Szilagyi allowed one hit as he finished the top of the seventh.
The Saints struck first with three runs in the top of the third. The Knights answered right back with three of their own in the home half.
Nick Glebocki led off with a triple. After
Colin Pollard walked,
Anthony Basciano hit an RBI double to score Glebocki.
Zach Ray then walked to load the bases.
Cris Diaz hit a sacrifice fly to score Pollard and Basciano score on an RBI ground out by
Andrew Curran.
With the bases loaded via walks in the fourth, Basciano singled to put Neumann up 4-3. Ray then hit a sacrifice fly to score Glebocki and put the Knights up 5-2.
The Saints pulled to within one in the top of the fifth. Ray hit another sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-4 lead heading into the seventh.
Marymount loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the seventh. With one out, the Saints were able to score three runs with a single and an error to take a 7-6 lead and force the Knights to bat in the bottom of the seventh.
Jose Romero led off the seventh with a walk and was sacrificed to second by
Andrew Fowler.
Marcus White walked and Glebocki was hit-by-pitch to load the bases, but the Knights could not get the tying run across the plate and fell 7-6 in game one.
Billy Hunt started the nightcap for the Knights and went 3.2 innings in the loss. He allowed nine runs on 11 hits. Szilagyi went 1.1 scoreless innings.
Pat Leighton pitched 3.0 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and struck out three. Parker pitched the ninth inning.
The Saints struck first again in the top of the first. The Knights again answered and took the lead on a two-run single by Curran in the bottom of the inning. Ray hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the second for a 5-1 lead. Curran hit a solo shot to lead off the third for a 6-1 Neumann lead.
Marymount strung together six hits, including two homeruns, in the top of the fourth and plated eight runs to take a 9-6 edge. The Saints added a run in the seventh for a 10-6 advantage.
With a runner on in the bottom of the seventh, Curran hit his second long ball of the game, to pull the Knights within two, 10-8.
The Saints added an insurance run in the top of the eighth. The Knights could not get a rally going in the late innings in fell 11-8 in the night cap.
Neumann (5-7, 2-7 Atlantic East) will face Cabrini next weekend for the Atlantic East series. Friday's action will be at home with first pitch slated for 3:00 PM.
