SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell at Marywood University 12-5 on Friday afternoon in an Atlantic East Conference match-up.
Andrew Curran started the game and went 1.0+ innings. He allowed nine runs on four hits.
Brennan Hatala went 5.0 innings out of the pen and allowed three runs on four hits and struck out four.
Pat Leighton went the final 2.0 scoreless innings and struck out three.
Cris Diaz went 3-for-3 with a homerun, a double, two RBI, two runs scored and two walks.
Colin Pollard and
Marty Cortellessa each had two hits.
The Knights got on the board in the top of the first as Pollard reached via an error to lead off the game and came around to score on a double by Diaz. The Pacers answered with a run in the home half of the first to tie the game at one. Marywood plated 10 runs in the bottom of the second, including a grand slam, for an 11-1 lead after two innings.
In the third, Neumann loaded the bases and
Nick Glebocki drew a walk to score Diaz. The Knights took advantage of a Pacer miscue in the fourth to plate another run.
Zach Ray singled to lead off the seventh and Diaz followed with his homerun for Neumann's fourth and fifth run.
Neumann (5-11, 2-11 Atlantic East) will host Marywood for a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 12:00 PM.
