ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's soccer team fell for the second consecutive game on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 1-0 result to visiting Stockton University in non-conference action.
Seth Walker was strong in goal for the Knights, stopping four shots in the loss.
A tight first half saw each team create chances, with Stockton coming closest to finding the back of the net. Walker came up huge midway through the frame as a misplaced ball from the Neumann back-line created a breakaway for the Ospreys. The junior net-minder sprung off his line, made himself big and got a fingertip to the Stockton shot to push the ball wide and keep the game scoreless. The Knights looked dangerous on the counterattack throughout the opening 45 minutes, but couldn't capitalize on their chances despite three shots. The Ospreys nearly took a late first half lead, but a shot from just inside the box struck the post as the game stayed 0-0 heading to halftime.
As the game moved to the second stanza, Stockton took control of the game. Finding a second gear, the Ospreys outshot the Knights by a count of 7-1 in the half and much of the game was played in the Neumann end. The visitors broke through with the game's only tally in the 58th minute, as a Knight defender was stripped of the ball deep in his own end leading to a quick pass and finish from a Stockton forward. The Knights tried to find an equalizer, but their opportunities were few and far between in the final portion of the contest. Neumann did have a quality chance in the waning seconds of the match, but a shot from
Sam Clavijo went just over the bar as the game finished 1-0 in favor of the Ospreys.
Neumann (2-4) will aim to get back into the win column this Saturday, September 18th when it travels to Moravian College. Game-time is scheduled to 4:00 PM.
