WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team opened the 2021 campaign at King's College (Pa.) on Saturday evening. The Knights fell to the Monarchs 5-1.
Sydney Volpe scored her first collegiate goal for Neumann's lone tally.
Rachel Koerner had the assist.
Megan Frame started the game in the cage and made 11 saves over three quarters.
Ava Irwin had three saves in the final quarter.
The teams played a scoreless first quarter. The Monarchs opened the scoring in the 20
th minute and took the 1-0 lead at the half. King's scored three goals to start the third quarter. Volpe notched her goal in the in the 44
th minute for a 4-1 game. The Monarchs rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 57
th minute.
Neumann (0-1) will head to Lancaster Bible on Tuesday afternoon for the make-up game that was rained out earlier this week. The game is slated to get underway at 4:30 PM.
