SALISBURY, Md. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in day two of the Sea Gull Classic at Salisbury University on Saturday. The Knights fell 3-2 to McDaniel in the first match and then 3-0 to host Salisbury.
The Knights battled in a 3-2 loss to McDaniel College in the first match of the day.
Bre Hickey led the Knights with 12 kills and 18 digs.
Ariana Pena tallied nine kills while
Lauren Garvey added seven.
Dani Smith handed out 20 assists while
Catie Esslinger added 15.
Tied at 19 late in set one, the Green Terror scored four of the next six points for a 23-21 lead. Two kills by
Regan Hickey, a McDaniel attack error and a kill by Pena gave the Knights a 25-23 first set win.
The teams tied at 19 again in the second set, but this time McDaniel scored six straight points for a 25-19 win to tie the match at one. Nineteen popular in the third set as well as the teams were knotted again. The teams went back and forth, and the teams were tied at 22, but the Green Terror took a 2-1 lead with a 25-22 set three win.
Neumann forced a fifth set with a 25-20 fourth set win. Early in set five, the teams remained close, but McDaniel took a 5-4 score and extended its lead to 12-4. The Knights attempted to get back into the fifth set, but the Green Terror held on for the 15-6 set win and 3-2 match win.
Against Salisbury, the Sea Gulls won 3-0 by set scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-19. Pena led the Knights with eight kills. Smith dished out 15 assists and eight digs.
Reagan Walker tallied 10 digs and B. Hickey added nine.
Neumann (0-3) will head to Ursinus College on Tuesday evening. Action is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM.
