COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team defeated Ursinus College in straight sets, 3-0, on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-22, 25-19 and 25-17.
Bre Hickey and
Ariana Pena each had 11 kills to lead the Knights.
Catie Esslinger handed out 21 assists while
Dani Smith notched 16.
Tori Burgess dished out 12 digs while Hickey added 11.
Down 17-10 in the first set, the Knights rattled off four straight kills. Coupled with a Bear attack error, Neumann pulled to within two, 17-15. The Knights scored four od the next six points to pull even at 19. After Ursinus took a 20-19 edge, kills by Smith and Pena gave Neumann a 21-20 lead. Another kill by Pena put the Knights at set point, 24-21. Hickey sealed the first set win, 25-22, with a kill.
In set two, Neumann took a 14-12 deficit and scored six straight points for an 18-14 lead. A kill by Pena gave the Knights a 25-19 second set win. Neumann held the pace of set three and another Pena kill sealed the 25-17 set win and 3-0 match win.
Neumann (1-3) will head to the Buttermaker Tournament this weekend at Muhlenberg College. Action is on Friday and Saturday.
