ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team was edged by King's College (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) match-up.
The Monarchs scored all three goals on the power play, including two in the first period to take an early 2-0 lead.
Lian Sydorowicz netted her first collegiate goal with 2:43 left in the first period for a 2-1 game heading into the first intermission.
Kyra Filighera drew the first of her two assists of the afternoon on the goal.
King's added another power play tally late in the second period for a 3-1 game after two.
Late in the third period and with the goalie pulled,
Georgia Wunder lit the lamp off assists from Filighera and
Mikaylee Henhawk. The Knights had a few more chances to pull even but could not get another puck into the back of the net.
The Monarchs scored three goals on the man-advantage, while the Knights were held off the board on the power play. Neumann outshot King's 44-32. The Knights put 19 shots on net in the third period.
Michelle Winand-Bacon made 29 saves in net.
Neumann (1-11-2, 1-7-2-1 UCHC) will look to take a series split when it hosts King's again on Tuesday afternoon. The puck is slated to drop at 2:30 PM.
