ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team defeated King's College (Pa.) 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest.
Four Knights tallied a goal and an assist in the contest:
Lian Sydorowicz,
Mikaylee Henhawk,
Katelyn Brown and
Emma Tauken.
Brigitte Maikisch handed out two assists. Neumann outshot King's 35-22. Henhawk led the Knights with 11 shots.
Michelle Winand-Bacon made 20 saves in net for the win, including 12 in the second period.
Henhawk opened the scoring with a shot from the point off a pass from Brown at the 7:26 mark of the first. The Monarchs tied the game at one five minutes later.
Jasmine Martinez found the back of the net with 4:59 left in the first to put Neumann up 2-1. Sydorowicz and
Gabby Massa drew the assists. In the final minute of the first period, Sydorowicz deflected in a shot from Tauken for a 3-1 lead. Maikisch had the second assist on the goal.
King's netted the only goal of the second period and Neumann held a 3-2 advantage heading into the final period.
The Knights scored two power play goals in the third for some insurance. Brown took a rebound from Henhawk and put it in the back of the net 3:18 into the third.
Georgia Wunder also tallied an assist. Tauken scored her first collegiate goal on a shot from the point off a pass from Maikisch midway through the period.
The Knights finished 2-for-6 on the power play while they held the Monarchs 0-for-3.
Neumann (2-11-2, 2-7-1 UCHC) is right back on the ice tomorrow as it travels to Lebanon Valley. The puck is slated to drop at 6:00 PM.
