Women's Ice Hockey Falls in Battle of the Knights

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team fell in a battle of the Knights on Friday evening, dropping a 6-3 result to visiting Arcadia University in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) play.

Mikaylee Henhawk and Lian Sydorowicz each recorded a goal and an assist in the loss, while Katelyn Brown also scored. Michelle Winand-Bacon and Emma Swansburg split time in goal, combining for 32 saves on the night.

In a battle of two teams fighting for conference playoff positions, it would be Arcadia who would establish an early advantage in the contest. The visitors recorded the game's first six shots and took a 1-0 lead with a power play goal at the 6:02 mark of the opening period of play. Neumann struck back almost right away via the stick of Sydorowicz to make it 1-1 just 1:50 later, but Arcadia punctuated a frenetic few minutes with their second goal of the night under a minute later at 8:48 to make it 2–1. The hosts hoped to get an equalizer before the end of the frame, but it would be Arcadia who found the game's next goal, scoring a back-breaking goal with 1:30 left in the period to take a 3-1 lead into the dressing room.

The visitors continued to roll early in the second stanza, building a three goal lead 5:57 into the period with their fourth goal. Neumann tried to answer back midway through the frame, but a Syd Ladwig shot rattled the crossbar as the game remained 4-1. The hosts did get back into the game late in the period though, as Henhawk sniped a missile from the point into the top corner to make it 4-2 with 2:09 left. Once again however, Arcadia scored late in the frame to send Neumann reeling into intermission. The visitors tallied with just 58 seconds remaining to make it 5-2 moving into the third.

Arcadia sealed things early in the third with a goal just over seven minutes into the frame to make it 6-2. The hosts got a late consolation marker on the power play from Brown with under two minutes to go in the contest, but it was too little, too late as the visitors skated away with the 6-3 win.

Neumann (2-13-2, 2-9-2 UCHC) returns to the ice tomorrow for a rematch at Arcadia. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
