COLMAR, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team suffered its second setback in as many days Saturday evening at the hands of host Arcadia University by a score of 3-0 in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) play.
Michelle Winand-Bacon kept the Knights in the game with 37 saves in goal.
Mikaylee Henhawk led the team with eight shots on the evening.
Meeting for the second time this weekend, Saturday's contest would be a much tighter checking affair with far less offensive action. Neumann kept the hosts off the board in the opening period of play with nine saves from Winand-Bacon to go along with great team defense. Neumann also forced ten saves from the Arcadia goaltender, who was also sharp as the game headed to the second scoreless at 0-0.
The second stanza equaled more of the same from each team. The ice began to tilt towards Arcadia, as the hosts doubled Neumann up in shots by a count of 17-8 in the frame. Again though, Winand-Bacon was stellar, shutting out the host Knights in keeping the scoreless affair going. The visitors couldn't generate a goal either though
Arcadia finally broke through in the third. Using the power-play to their advantage, the hosts took a 1-0 lead just 3:53 into the final frame. Continuing to roll, Arcadia then tacked on two more goals late in the contest to dash any hope of a Neumann comeback. The visitors remained unable to get any offense going as the game finished 3-0 in favor of the hosts.
Neumann (2-14-2, 2-10-2) will look to bounce back next weekend when the team heads to Utica College for a pair of games. Puck-drop in New York on Friday, January 28th is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
