UTICA, N.Y. - The Neumann University women's hockey team couldn't keep up with a tough Utica College team on Friday afternoon, falling on the road by a score of 10-0 in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.
Emma Swansburg got the start in goal, stopping 48 shots in the loss.
Jasmine Martinez led the Knights with four shots on goal.
Neumann played a strong first period to keep the game close through 20 minutes of play. Swansburg was the top Knight in the frame, making 11 saves on 12 shots to keep the visitors within striking distance. Utica broke through 9:37 into the contest to take a 1-0 lead that held up into intermission.
The wheels would fall off for the Knights early in the second stanza. Neumann conceded just 41 seconds into the period to go down 2-0, then allowed three more markers over the next ten minutes to trail 5-0 midway through the frame. The Pioneers then tacked on two more tallies late in the period to take a 7-0 lead to the third.
With the matchup in hand in the final frame, Neumann generated eight shots on goal but could not solve the Utica goaltender. The hosts continued to roll, scoring three more times during the period to skate away with the 10-0 conference victory.
Neumann (2-15-2, 2-11-2 UCHC) will look to avenge it's loss with a rematch versus Utica tomorrow afternoon. Puck-drop is scheduled for 1:30 PM.
