UTICA, N.Y. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team dropped its second game in as many days at the hands of Utica College, falling by a score of 10-1 in Saturday afternoon's United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest.
Katelyn Brown was the lone goal scorer for the Knights in the loss, while
Michelle Winand-Bacon did everything she could in net, stopping 59 shots.
Seeking a weekend split after Friday's loss, the Knights ran into another Utica buzzsaw on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers picked up right where they left off Friday, dominating play with a 19-3 edge in shots in the opening frame. Using the heavy shot advantage, Utica powered their way to three first period goals to take an early 3-0 lead after one.
The Pioneers threw 23 more pucks on the Neumann goal in the second stanza, but Winand-Bacon was excellent in the period, keeping the Knights in the game with 22 saves. The junior goalie let one shot slip past her in the period, while the Neumann attack was still stuck in neutral in the frame. The visitors would trail by a score of 4-0 moving to the third.
The Utica onslaught finally began to break the Knights' resolve in the final frame.
Katelyn Brown found the back of the net to get the visitors on the board in the period, but other than that it was all Pioneers. The hosts scored six more times to skate away with a comfortable 10-1 win.
Neumann (2-16-2, 2-12-2 UCHC) will have two weeks off before returning to action Friday, February 11th for a home matchup versus Chatham University. Puck-drop is slated for 7:00 PM.
