ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team lost its Atlantic East conference game to ty. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 5-0.
Meg Frame started the game in the cage and made 16 saves.
Rachel Straub had an outstanding defensive save in the fourth quarter. The Knights had two shots in the game, coming from
Kaitlyn Smith and
Rachel Koerner.
Kylie Fitchett made some nice plays and brought energy to the field as Neumann tried to work its way up the field.
The Seahawks scored two goals within a minute in the first quarter for a 2-0 lead. Frame made five saves in the busy quarter.
The Knights had a penalty corner in the beginning of the second quarter and Smith had a shot blocked, but Neumann could not find the back of the cage. St. Mary's was able to get two more goals in the quarter to take a 4-0 lead at the half.
In the third, the Seahawks had two quick shots in a row in the 40th minute, scoring on the second shot for a 5-0 game.
St. Mary's opened the fourth quarter with three shots, all saved by Frame. Koerner had a shot blocked later in the quarter, which help lead to a penalty corner for Neumann. Straub made a great defensive save and Frame made one more save in the quarter to keep the Seahawks off the board in the fourth.
Neumann (3-11, 0-4 Atlantic East) heads to Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday for a conference matchup beginning at 1:00 PM.
