OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Neumann Women's ice hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision at Stevenson University on Friday afternoon in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest.
Vicky Maloney opened the scoring with her first collegiate goal at the 14:47 mark of the first period. Gia Santorello grabbed the assist. The lead was short lived as Stevenson tied the game less than a minute later with a power play goal. The teams went into the first intermission tied at one.
Stevenson netted two goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. The Mustangs broke the tie 4:57 into the period. Stevenson added a shorthanded goal at the 11-minute mark.
Jamiyah Alexander pulled Neumann within one, 3-2, late in the third period with a goal on the power play. Cecelia Mick and Sidney Squires tallied the assists. A minute later, the Knights pulled the goalie a minute later un the attempt to tie the game. Neumann put on the pressure and put nine pucks towards the net, seven of which were shots on goal, one was blocked and the other went wide.
Michelle Winand-Bacon made 28 saves in the game.
Neumann (0-5, 0-3 UCHC) and Stevenson will face-off again tomorrow afternoon in the back end of the home-and-home. Puck is slated to drop at 2:00 PM.
